Applicants in Canada, Australia, and India are eligible for the online coursework only.

How the Program Works

For those in select UK and US markets: The program starts with the Smart Home Fundamentals online prerequisite coursework.  Upon completion, participants will be invited to continue with in-person, hands-on training in a location near them. 

Recipients who finish either phase will be awarded a certificate of completion, along with a list of CEDIA member companies they may contact as they explore career opportunities in the industry.

For those in India, Canada, and Australia: If accepted will have access to the Smart Home Fundamentals coursework. 

Training

Smart Home Fundamentals

This self-paced online course takes about 20-25 hours to finish. It covers the core skills an entry-level smart home technician needs, including audio, video, wiring and cabling, termination and testing, construction methods and materials, project processes, equipment installation, retrofit installation techniques, safety practices, and building codes and standards.

Residential Bootcamp

Once you complete the online coursework, you'll be formally invited to a 3 to 4 day, in-person residential training bootcamp at one of our select training centers as noted above.

  • Online coursework must be completed by Dec. 4th 2026, to be eligible.

Who this is for.

Eligible applicants:

  • Are 18 years or older
  • Are legally authorized to work in their country of residence
  • Are new to the workforce or transitioning from another career
  • Are affiliated with a trade school, career center, or veterans organization
  • Are interested in pursuing a career in the smart home industry

Applicants are not eligible if they:

  • Are currently employed in the smart home industry
  • Are employed by a CEDIA member company that provides CEDIA training benefits
  • Are not seeking employment in the smart home industry
